Ambassador Godwin Nsude Agbo assumed official duties as Ambassador of Nigeria to Japan on April 30, 2008 after presenting his letters of credence to His Majesty, Emperor Akihito.

Ambassador Agbo’s mission is to further deepen the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and Japan and also sensitize Japanese businessmen about the vast and enormous market and business opportunities existing in Nigeria in the areas of oil and gas exploration, solid minerals mining, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, etc.

06/02/2009 Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister, H.E Chief Ojo Maduekwe and his Japanese counterpart, Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone during the former's visit to Japan for the Nigeria-Japan Foreign Ministers' meeting in June, 2009.

At the meeting, Japan re-affirmed its support for Nigeria and also to promote trade and increase its investments in the country. The restoration of the ODA yen loan that was hitherto suspended was equally announced at the meeting.

Nigeria has won election for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations (UN) Security Council alongside Gabon and Brazil.
