NIGERIA – JAPAN Trade Exchange Forum, Held in Tokyo, Japan
In a bold effort towards boosting economic cooperation between Nigeria and Japan the Japan - Nigeria Trade Exchange Forum was convened by iGate Global Concepts Ltd in collaboration with the Embassy of Nigeria in Tokyo Japan. The forum took place on the 29th of September 2015 with Seventy Eight (78) representatives from Japanese companies and organizations, nine (9) Nigerian government agencies and Nigerian business communities based in Japan in attendance.
In his opening speech, the Head of Mission His Excellency Ambassador Inalegwu Victor Ogah, thanked the Japanese and Nigerian participants for honouring the invitation in spite of initial hiccups encountered in the course of organizing the business forum. He noted that the Nigerian embassy has been working very hard over the past 4 years in fostering bilateral economic cooperation by taking several Japanese business delegations to Nigeria and vice versa in a move, he stressed was beginning to yield desired results as seen in the surge of Japanese investments into Nigeria. He also emphasized on the need for both countries to build on this deepening friendship for mutual benefits.
The First segment of the Forum featured presentations on areas of potential collaboration ranging from Agriculture, information technology, education, infrastructural developments, electricity, water purification and processing, raw materials research and quality control, among others. The Head of Mission, Embassy of Nigeria, Ambassador Victor Ogah, the Director General, National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Dr. Paul Orhii, the Acting Managing Director of Inland Water Ways Authority, Bar. Ibrahim Danladi, Ms. Zainab Hammanga of Raw Materials Research and Development Council and Bar. Richard Obianu of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority made presentations on behalf of their respective organisations. Other speakers were Engr. Mondary Ochade, Nigerian Diaspora Organization (NIDO), Mr. Brite Eguavon, Secretary General of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Japan (NCCIJ), Chief Fintan Nnaji, CEO of Nahfken Associates Plc. Japan.
The second segment of the Forum was a One on One session, where participants were matched for the purpose of exchanging business information. The Forum was a huge success going by the feedback received from Participants from both countries. In the aftermath of the Forum, all participants expressed their desire to continue to seek out ways for developing a deeper economic and social cooperation among themselves.
In his closing remarks, Mr. B.K Husseini, Minister in Charge of Trade & Economic Matters in the Embassy, thanked all the participants for attending the forum and iGate Global Concepts inc. for organizing the event. He further reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to render every needed assistance to any participants who might be following up with the outcome of their participation in the Forum.
