Ambassador Godwin Nsude Agbo assumed official duties as Ambassador of Nigeria to Japan on April 30, 2008 after presenting his letters of credence to His Majesty, Emperor Akihito.

Ambassador Agbo’s mission is to further deepen the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and Japan and also sensitize Japanese businessmen about the vast and enormous market and business opportunities existing in Nigeria in the areas of oil and gas exploration, solid minerals mining, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, etc.

Nigerian President Umar Yar’Adua passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the age of 58. The Nigerian President had been ill for a long time necessitating him travel to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. He was diagnosed of acute pericarditis.
President Yar’Adua became the Nigerian 13th Head of State in May 29, 2007. He had earlier served as governor of Katsina State from May 1999 to May 2007 before contesting and winning Presidential election on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)

Ambassador Godwin Agbo was in Fukuoka Prefecture on 27 January 2010 on economic trip to attract investors to Nigeria. While in the Region, he paid courtesy call to Governor Wataru Aso.

After the courtesy visit, the Ambassador, his wife and some members of his staff visited the Jet Neko K.K. factory, manufacturer of solar panels and solar powered products.

The Nigerian Government has appointed Mr. Odein Ajumogobia as the new Foreign Affairs Minister. Mr. Ajumogobia replaces Mr. Ojo Maduekwe who was in that position from 2007 – March 2010.
Prior his appointment, Mr. Ajumogobia was the Minister of State for Energy.
Born in 1956, the new Foreign Affairs Minister is an accomplished lawyer who held the post of Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General of Rivers State from 2003 – 2007 (see C.V.)

Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service arrived Tokyo on August 22, 2010 to re-capture the data of Nigerians whose passports were yet to be processed after the first visit in April. Nigerian residents in Japan are hereby advised to take advantage of this re-visit to apply for the new e-passport.
