04/06/2010  Nigeria Appoints New Foreign Affairs Minister

The Nigerian Government has appointed Mr. Odein Ajumogobia as the new Foreign Affairs Minister. Mr. Ajumogobia replaces Mr. Ojo Maduekwe who was in that position from 2007 – March 2010.

Prior his appointment, Mr. Ajumogobia was the Minister of State for Energy.

Born in 1956, the new Foreign Affairs Minister is an accomplished lawyer who held the post of Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General of Rivers State from 2003 – 2007 (see C.V. below)

Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong was also appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. He was formerly a junior Minister in the Ministries of Culture and Tourism and Health.

Both Ministers have since resumed duties.
