Types of Visas
Business, Visitor, Tourist, Transit, STR (Subject to Regularization), TWP (Temporary Work Permit), Official and Diplomatic.

Basic Requirements

 
  • Passport (has to have 6 months validity at the time of application. For foreign nationals,
    re-entry permit may be necessary)
  • 1 Passport-size Photograph (3.5 x 4.5 cm)
  • Duly Completed Application Form (download Form) pdf
  • Visa Fee: For Japanese citizen: 4,000 yen (single entry); 8,000 yen (multiple entry/STR) (For citizens of other countries, see Visa Fees List pdf )

* Travellers are advised to take anti-malarial drugs.



Business Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for Business Visa should submit:-
  • Letter of Invitation from a Nigerian company stating clearly the purpose and the acceptance of financial and/or full immigration responsibilities;
  • Letter of Recommendation from a Japanese company explaining the purpose of trip to Nigeria;
  • Flight reservation and itinerary.


Visitor’s Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for Visitor’s Visa should submit:-
  • A duly signed letter of invitation from the Nigerian guarantor indicating the relationship with the applicant and the acceptance of financial and/or full immigration responsibilities;
  • Photocopy of the Nigerian guarantor’s valid passport (where applicable);
  • Where the applicant is the guarantor’s spouse, a certified copy of Marriage Acceptance (Konin Todoke Juri Shomei) from the city government office must be attached, while for the guarantor’s child, a certified copy of Family Register (Kosei Tohon) or Birth Certificate (Shusei Todoke Juri Shomei);
  • Copy of the return ticket or proof of flight reservation.


Tourist Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for Tourist Visa should submit:-
  • Letter in English explaining reason for visit and place(s) of interest applicant wants to visit in Nigeria;
  • Copy of the return ticket or proof of flight reservation.


Transit Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for Transit Visa should submit:-
  • Visa to country of final destination;
  • Copy of the return ticket or proof of flight reservation including onward connection.

* Visa fees in respect of applications for Double-Entry Transit Visa will be same as Multiple-Entry Visa.



STR Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for STR Visa should submit the followings in quadruplicate:-
  • Certified copies of valid expatriate quota;
  • Letter of Offer of Appointment by the registered company;
  • Letter of Acceptance of Appointment by applicant.
  • Certified copies of valid temporary work permit issued by the Nigerian Immigration (for application for Temporary Work Permit).


Official/Diplomatic Visa

 
In addition to Basic Requirements, applicants for Official/Diplomatic Visa should submit the followings in duplicate:-
  • Note Verbale issued by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating the purpose and duration of stay.


General Information for Visa Applicants

- Only applicants that have visited Nigeria more than once are eligible for multiple entry visa.
   Please submit photocopy of the Nigerian visa used for the previous trip.

- Visas are usually issued 48 hours after submission of application.

- If visa collection day falls on a Nigerian or Japanese public holidays, the collection will be the next
  collection day. (i.e. if you apply on Monday and the Wednesday is holiday, you will collect visa on Friday.)

-  Journalists travelling to Nigeria are advised to submit their visa application about one month
  before their travel.
